Help the Children's Crisis Center

Help the Children's Crisis Center

My name is Anne Elizabeth Vient and I am a senior at Central Catholic High School. My teacher, Mrs. Dillon, assigned our English class a problem solution project. After realizing how many underprivileged children that would be unable to celebrate Christmas with presents, I came up with the idea of making Christmas stockings for the children who pass through the Children’s Crisis Center of Stanislaus County.

After calling the director of the center to let her know I had made 100 stockings to donate, she was excited. She then said, "I don’t want to overwhelm you but I could use 600". After my initial shock, I decided to go ahead and make 500 more but knew I would need to get help from family, friends and those who have in the past supported the Children’s Crises Center.

Thus far, we have stuffed 430 stockings with presents for these children. Since they would not likely receive any presents, my goal is to make enough stockings to bring 600 kids a Christmas present this season.

We have stuffed stockings with items according to different age groups such as baby, toddler, and older children. The baby stockings have a baby book, teddy bear or blanket, pacifier, and a tipsy cup. The toddlers have a coloring book with crayons, tipsy cups, toothbrush, teddy bear, candy, and various toys such as bubbles, toy cars, balls, or bracelets. The older girls and boys get a water bottle, a coloring or writing book, pen or pencils, candy, and two toys such as a foam football, bouncy ball, slinky toy, car, Barbie doll, jump rope, Chap Stick, pom poms, or bubbles.

I hope that every child that passes through the Children Crisis Center during the Christmas season will receive a stocking and that no child is left without a present.

I am accepting donations for the cost of the stockings and presents. They are costing between $10 and $15 per stocking. Thus far I have received several generous large and small donations that I am thankful for. The stockings will be delivered starting December 13th and we will continue working on them up to Christmas.
