Mathematics opens doors to all kinds of options!
Our Mathematics department consists of three full time instructors and one part time instructor. Our classes include: Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra I honors, Geometry, Geometry honors, Algebra II, Algebra II honors, Pre-Calculus, Pre-Calculus honors, Calculus AP and Consumer's Math. All of our courses use Glencoe textbook with the exceptions of Pre-Algebra which use Aleks computer program along with supplemental materials and calculus uses Stewart - single variable calculus. We have a department-wide policy regarding technology in the classroom and for grading homework.
Our teachers use many different teaching techniques including individual instructions, whole class instruction, group work, projects, quizzes and tests. Whenever available our teachers relate the problems to real world mathematics by using authentic data. As part of our study skills program a notebook is required at all levels. Our teachers love to hear from you so please feel free to e-mail them at any time.
While here at Central Catholic High School students will experience a broad spectrum of mathematics. We will build upon the skills that were developed in elementary and junior high schools so that you will become adept at understanding the fundamental mathematics necessary for higher education and the workforce. A Central Catholic High School graduate will be able to:
- Understand numbers, ways of representing numbers, relationships and number systems.
- Compute fluently and make reasonable estimates.
- Represent and analyze mathematical structures using algebraic symbols.
- Analyze characteristics and properties of two and three dimensional geometric shapes.
- Use coordinate geometry and other representational systems.
- Apply appropriate techniques, tools and formulas to determine measurements.
- Apply and adapt a variety of appropriate strategies to solve problems.
- Make and investigate mathematical conjectures.
- Understand how mathematical ideas interconnect and build on one another to produce a coherent whole.
We look forward to the opportunity to work with you!
