Portrait of an Artist: Trey Reed, ‘90

Trey Reed,’90, was featured in the Modesto Bee on Sunday, February 28, 2010 in “Portrait of an Artist “. Trey is a 1990 graduate of C.C.H.S. Trey’s sister, Dr. Kimberlee Reed, is a 1986 graduate; she is a skilled general surgeon. After graduating from C.C.H.S. he attended University of California, Berkeley and furthered his education at Oxford University in England. He worked for a period of time in the family vending and amusement/games businesses. Trey was consistently drawn to the creative arts and therefore found himself launching a career as an abstract painter in early 2004. With no formal education and challenged by color-blindness since birth, Trey found his mark in texture, pattern, metallics and earthen tones. He started from his own living room, and gained notoriety by creating large commissions for the Central Valley Society and branched out from there.

Trey has sold well over 850 paintings through commissions and gallery affiliation in Modesto, San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Hawaii, and Europe and afar. He is currently represented by 3 galleries and McGuire Furniture, both in San Francisco and New York. Last year, Trey had two solo showings in New York and numerous others across the country. He was selected to the Florence Biennial to participate along with 72 other internationally recognized and selected artists in an invitation-only event in Italy. Trey has been commissioned and collected worldwide, with both personal and corporate clientele alike. His credits include Home and Garden Television (HGTV), Public Broadcasting System (PBS), Western Interiors Magazine, NY Arts Magazine, World Arts Magazine, San Joaquin Magazine, San Francisco Chronicle, among others.

Lately, Trey featured a new series of seven sketches that are recessed in massive gold-leaf estate frames as well as a 55" by 70" abstract painting to complete the Gallo Center for the Arts Carnation Family Founder's Room (donated to the Center), and has just installed and collaborated with the beautiful Wine and Roses Resort & Spa, in combination with designer Judy Mills, Lodi, on a collection of art in the corporate offices, the resort entry and the lovely resort bar and lounge.

He was in Paris, France, coordinating shows for February and October at Galerie Gavart in the art district, and returned to a busy schedule beginning with the bi-annual Wine and Art Show and the Modesto Symphony Party at Del Rio Country Club in the first week of November. Recently , he has had his art showcased at Bella Vago Salon open house and will be in two of the three homes on the Omega Nu Home Tour.
