Swing for Central – Monday, October 4 – Del Rio Golf and Country Club

Swing for Central began as a golf tournament organized by Bud Patton and some of his friends out at Del Rio Golf and Country Club to raise money for Central Catholic athletic teams. The tournament has grown from a few friends getting together for a good cause to an event that draws alumni, past parents, parents and friends, a lively auction and a Hall of Fame dinner presentation.

This year’s tournament will be held at the Del Rio Golf and Country Club on Monday, October 4th with a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. Food and beverages will be provided throughout the course and players will end up back at the clubhouse for dinner, an auction and the Hall of Fame ceremonies. Last year, the proceeds provided another van for athletic teams; this year the goal will be to raise $35,000 for our athletic teams.

Honored in the Hall of Fame this year will be Tim Galas, ’78, a three sport athlete who went on to play football at Cal. Tim’s son Dominic, ’08, is now on the Cal roster and younger son Matt, ’10, is starting his career at the University of Nevada, Reno. Karen Schaefer Wilcox, ’82, ran track and played volleyball and basketball at CCHS. During her senior year she competed in Nationals in Tempe, Arizona and still holds a high school track record. Ray Wetzel, ’88, played football for the University of the Pacific after Central Catholic. Christen Hardee, ’98, is the assistant softball coach at San Jose State. After Central Catholic Christen played softball for Humboldt, who won the national title during her junior year.

Tickets for the entire day – or just the dinner – may be purchased by calling Kari Paris, 524 9611.
