Course Placement Criteria
Freshmen will have 5 required courses selected for them: English, Math, Theology, Health/Speech, and Freshmen Skills/Geography. Freshman Theology will consist of: Introduction to Catholicism (Fall Semester) and Sacramental Theology (Spring Semester). Health/Speech and Freshmen Skills/Geography are also semester classes. They are structured to follow one another in the same class periods.
Central Catholic High School has a seven class schedule. Elective courses are from the following departments: Science, Foreign Language, Fine Arts, and Physical Education. They may also elect Yearbook or Academic Decathlon.
The following criterion is used in placing students into Honors, College Prep. or General Education classes.
Honors
- 'A' grades in prerequisite courses, (Honors, Advanced and Gate programs are taken into consideration).
- 90% or above scoring on current standardized testing.
- Current English and Math teacher recommendations.
- Scoring 90% or better on Otis Lennon placement testing.
College Preparatory
- Successful completion of a C or better grade in prerequisite courses.
- Average to above average scoring on standardized testing.
- Current English and Math teacher recommendations.
General Education
- Standardized test scores normally in the average to the below average range.
- Current English and Math teacher recommendations.
- Students at the 35th percentile or below.
Please note the above are guidelines. Students may be placed in one of the above course levels on an individual basis depending on the recommendation of the Admissions Review Committee at Central Catholic High School.
