Alumna Partipcates in Historic Korean War Ceremony
Central Catholic alumna Katelynn Gapuz ’17 was a part of the historic honorable carry ceremony for the remains of fallen Korean War Soldiers returning home. The ceremony took place at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawaii. Only a few women were part of the carry group and Katelynn was the only woman representing the Navy.
Katelynn shared with us her thoughts on the experience, “Two weeks of practice, making the cut and all the hard work getting to the day of the ceremony didn’t prepare me for what I was going to see and feel walking into the C-17 for the first time. It was like a scene from the movies, so much honor and respect lay before me draped in an American flag and each time we presented arms to that fallen soldier was indescribable. It wasn’t about the press, meeting the Vice President or bragging rights, but the single reason that I was so humbled to be one of the first people to bring our fallen brothers onto US soil for the first time since they left for the war. I’m so thankful to have had this opportunity; it will likely be one of the proudest moments of my entire career.”
Faithful to our Catholic Tradition, our mission is to witness to the Gospel while building an educational community that inspires the spiritual, academic and social development of young adults.
