Eagle Scout Project to Honor Altenhofen

Junior Ben Shinkwin, a member of Boy Scout in Troop 194 in Modesto is currently working on his Eagle Scout project at here at Central Catholic High School. Ben’s project is to install an illuminated 60 ft. flagpole, memorial plaque, and greenery at David Patton Field dedicated to CC alum Keith Altenhofen ’86.
Keith graduated from Central Catholic in 1986. He then attended St. Mary’s College in Moraga, CA. After graduating from St. Mary’s, Keith decided to join the United States Air Force. He was a dedicated individual who knew what it meant to take the extra step and to help people at all measures, even if it meant risking his life. Keith was a Major in the USAF, a helicopter pilot, and he rescued hundreds of men, women, and children out of harm’s way in Iraq and Afghanistan. Keith was decorated twice with the Distinguished Flying Cross with Valor medal while in the 129th Rescue Squadron in Afghanistan. Unfortunately, as a result of PTSD, he lost his life in early 2016 back here at home.

Keith was a local boy who loved his family and friends, school, community, and country, which makes a memorial here, where it all started, especially appropriate. He is deeply loved and missed by many. The dedication of the flagpole memorial will be held on Friday, September 29, 2017 at approximately 7:00pm between the JV and Varsity football games versus Sierra High School.

If you would like to contribute to this project in honor of Keith, donations can be sent to the CCHS Foundation, 200 S Carpenter Rd. Modesto, CA 95351 with "Ben's flagpole" noted.
